2010-11 Ereklasse round 7: REL v AAC Rugby preview

Rugby club Etten-Leur host the hurting Amsterdam club in round 7.

REL will be happy to see the visit of the strugglers after their run of defeats culminating in their midweek loss to Ereklasse leaders the Dukes.

Alex Vieland REL captain told us after their midweek loss “Despite this loss, I am convinced that tomorrow during training we’ll find the switch to put on a good performance on Saturday against AAC.”

It is hard to see AAC coming back from their humbling 185 point loss to compete in this game. A bonus point win should be a certainty for REL.

Match prediction: REL win by 60pts

2010-11 Ereklasse round 7: Utrechtse v Castricumse preview

Passions will be running high in a game that could go a long way to deciding who will be relegated at the end of the season.

If Cas win, they will put real distance between themselves and the bottom three clubs, should Utrecht take advantage of their home field then they will pull themselves up and keep Cas in the relegation mire.

Cas were beaten last time out by Haagsche, whilst Utrecht were outclassed by high flying LRC DIOK.

We spoke to Obbe Weinkels, Cas coach about the game “This weekend will be a big tester for both teams. If both teams want to have any chance in getting to the top four they should win.”

“Castricum looks stronger every week only the results are a bit disappointing.”

“The you group of players need to keep there discipline and need to keep up there work rate.”

He continued “They should be able to give a nice rugby show again but they have to score more points. All players know the up coming match is important and the will do every thing within there power to go home with a win.”

Match prediction: draw

2010-11 Ereklasse round 7: Haagsche v Eemland preview

Haagsche face a very awkward fixture against RC Eemland.

Eemland made ’t Gooi work very hard for their win last week and if Kieran Mattson’s men do the same thing again this week they may well get the win their tenacity deserves.

Haagsche have themselves pulled themselves back into the winners circle after a number of recent losses. Haagsche’s win over the young Castricumse team will give them much confidence.

Robin Raphael from Haagsche RC was kind enough to take some time out to pass on his thoughts about this game “It’s MUST WIN time for HRC, and they need the Bonus point to move up into the top Four. With only 19 points after 6 games the Haagenaars find themselves drifting further away from the top of the leader board.

Robin was keen to outline just how close this competition is “In their favour however is that this weekends games mean that the top four play one another and so two of the top half of the table must forfeit a game. If the rugby gods role their dice correctly then HRC can move up into 3rd spot, however the more likely outcome will leave them in 5th with only one point seperating the top 4!!! Eemland will be coming to the Hague hoping to spoil HRC,s party and will be fiercely competitive.”

He added “They could prove to be the Haagenaars bogyman, as the Hague has battled with newcomers like Eemland before. One only has to be reminded of Sparta last year who won 32 – 31 and then went on to be relegated at seasons end. HRC have it all to do but Eemland want to and can win this weekend. Luc their coach spent a year learning from the Blue Bulls and is an experienced campaigner. It’s one of those decisive games… Every season has one and this is it for the Hague. Prediction HRC by 15.”

If Haagsche secure a win they will effectively make it a 5 team race for the 4 fianls positions. It really is a must win game for them.

Haagsche, could well be the victim of a smash and grab raid in this game.

Match prediction: Eemland by 12pts

2010-11 Ereklasse round 7: LRC DIOK v RC the Dukes preview

Ereklasse leaders the Dukes travel to face fourth placed LRC DIOK in another fine contest in round 7.

The Dukes took the Ereklasse lead after their midweek win over REL.

DIOK will be looking to join them on points after the game has finished, such is the closeness of the teams at the top of the table.

DIOK have been steadily accumulating wins, they have not had the big wins of their rivals, but they have a solid game plan that will take some breaking down.

We spoke to Alex Chang, RC the Dukes Head Coach about this weeks game “”Diok at Diok is one of the toughest challenges in the Ereklasse, so our motivation for this game is very high. We have played much better recently and have been executing our game plan more consistently through out the game.”

He continued “We are looking forward to the challenge and we are confident we can put in a good performance.”

In what should be a tight affair, the Dukes should have too much upfront for their hosts.

2010-11 Ereklasse round 7: Hilversum v ’t Gooi preview

rchilversumIn the clash of the round and a possible grand final preview champions Hilversum host ’t Gooi in what should be a belter of a game.

Both sides enter the match in fine form, Hilversum scored a solid win over REL, while ’t Gooi had to work hard for their win over Eemland.

Johann du Plessis, the Hilversum captain summed up the weekends clash perfectly when we spoke to him “This Saturday is going to be one of the best games of the season. It doesn’t matter who is at the top or the bottom of the league, when Hilversum and ’t Gooi meet, it is always a big game!”

Johann added “The boys are really focused at training and you can feel the tension. We have three big games the coming weeks, ’t Gooi, the Dukes and Den Haag. And we want to start it with a win. It wont be easy, but these teams are contenders for the title and they will think the same as us. The team knows how important it is for the club to win this derby and we will do our best to give the supporters a good game and for ourselves to improve as a team.”

Allard Jonkers, ’t Gooi captain, has placed the pressure firmly on the home team ahead of the clash, he had this to say “As reigning champions all eyes are on Hilversum this season. It looks that after a not so promising start for them they got their game back on track. We know that playing Hilversum away means that it’s going to be physical. We certainly are ready for that.”

He continued “Our confidence after a consistence performance from our side is good. I believe that consistency will in the end decide the outcome of what is going to happen this season. This weekend we need full concentration for 80 minutes. Last weekend we had parts that we gave Eemland control. It’s important that we stay in control and we dictate the pace of the game. Interesting match and will give us a good idea where we at this early in the season.”

Gareth Gilbert Director rugby for ’t Gooi spoke to heavensgame after their win last weekend “The confidence showed by the team was good and our fitness again played a huge role in our performance. We are happy and looking forward to taking on our arch rivals Hilversum next weekend.”

Piet van den Deijssel from Hilversum gave us his view point on”Looking back the two fixtures from Hilversum and `t Gooi versus Eemland, Hilversum looked much stronger – Hilversum has more individual class and `t Gooi is more one team.”

He continued “If Hilversum has a good day as it did versus Utrecht – I think it will get an easy win for Hilversum – but if both teams have a good day it may be a very close game.”

One thing is for certain, on hearing from both captains, the spectators can expect quite a show!

Match prediction: Hilversum by 6pts

RC the Dukes 39 – 5 REL

RC the Dukes have moved to the top of the Ereklasse after their solid win at Limietlaan.

This game was re-arranged from round 2 after the tragic death of a REL player in a cycling accident had forced the postponement.

Alex Vieland, captain of REL had this to say after the game “Dukes managed to put us on our own half from the first minute. They hunted aggressive on the ball so we could not get under the pressure for the first 30 minutes. Our defense was good at that time, so we could handle the pressure for a long time.”

“Everyone knows that when you’re playing backwards it will be a tough game. Our scrums were often, to easy put back, what was resulting in no or to difficult balls for our backline.”

“Unfortunately, when we had a turnover ball there was not enough passion to follow up and put pressure on the Dukes straight away.”

“Despite this loss, I am convinced that tomorrow during training we’ll find the switch to put on a good performance on Saturday against AAC.”

the Dukes now face the difficult trip to fourth placed DIOK this weekend, knowing that they need to keep the momentum going. REL host AAC, which should see them return to the winners circle.

Goede performance Eemland

maandag 11 oktober 2010 11:45

Tuesday, 12 October 2010 06:41

This second round rearranged fixture provides the Dukes with the opportunity to back o the top of the table ahead of ’t Gooi should they register a bonus point win.

The 8:30 kick off at Limietlaan  provides Rugby club Etten-Leur an opportunity to get their season back on track, they are currently sitting in ninth spot, but can leapfrog Utrecht into eighth with the win.

REL have been unfortunate to face the revitalised champions Hilversum and now the high flying Dukes within a week.

We spoke to Alex Vlieland captain of Rugby club Etten-Leur “Well I have got much faith in the game tonight. All players are keen to put on a good performance. The last games were difficult. Fortunatly in these games REL never give up for the entire match. So thats something to build on.”

“The game against the Dukes will be interesting. Maybe tonight we will get everything back on track. REL will play the game whith aggression and we will fight to the last minute for the points.”

The Dukes, fresh from their 185 point thrashing of AAC will be facing a far harder opponent, but should still have enough in the tank for the win.

Match prediction: the Dukes by 25pts

2010-11 Ereklasse round 6: DIOK keep finals push on track

LRC DIOK 33 – 6    Utrechtse RC

LRC DIOK have scored a solid win over the visiting Utrecht at Smaragdlaan.

The win places DIOK in fourth place on points difference from next weeks opponents the Dukes.

After a bright start to their season Utrecht are starting to struggle and have now lost three matches in a row. They are precariously placed in eighth place

and have the must win battle with Castricumse next week.

2010-11 Ereklasse round 6: AAC reach a new low

RC the Dukes 185 – 0 AAC Rugby

The 9th of October 2010, will long live in the memories of the AAC Rugby club faithful, it will be marked down as the day the club reached unimaginable lows.

Credit must be given to the Dukes who produced a disciplined and ruthless performance. It would be hard to believe that they exacted any joy from the win though.

For the record RC the Dukes scored 29 tries and 20 conversions.

The win was also no preparation for their tough match against finals rivals DIOK in round 7.

2010-11 Ereklasse round 6: Haagsche win, stay in touch with leaders

Castricumse RC 1 10 – 28 Haagse RC 1

Haagsche have come through this awkward fixture at Wouterland with flying colours, underlying their tag as finals contenders.

Before the game both sides had been talking about a good game for the spectator and they were right, Haagsche took their chances when they came and that secured them the win.

Cas’ young side is very much a work in progress, the finals may be too far away for them this season, but you feel that if they stick together they will be a real force next year.

Next up for Cas is the awkward trip to Utrecht, Haagsche host RC Eemland in what should be another good contest.

2010-11 Ereklasse round 6: Hilversum bare their teeth

REL 3 – 56 Rugby Club Hilversum

Champions Hilversum have recorded another significant win on the road to defending their title. They had started the season slowly but are now finding their form as this fine win over the tough to beat REL shows.

Piet van den Deijssel, from Hilversum spoke to us after the game “REL has a mall pitch and always difficult to play fast running rugby.”

He added “Hilversum did well and scored by as well the backs as the forwards.”

Piet continued “By halftime the score was 0-27 and in the second half the home team only did get three points by a penalty. Hilversum was the better team on all positions.”

Next up for Hilversum is the mouthwatering fixture with leaders ’t Gooi. REL will host AAC and will be looking for a bonus point win.

2010-11 Ereklasse round 6: ’t Gooi made to work for win

RC Eemland 8 – 41 Rugby Club ’t Gooi

’t Gooi have maintained their winning ways by beating RC Eemland at de Bokkeduinen.

The scoreline does not do justice to the effort displayed by Eemland.

’t Gooi when needed raised the pace of their game and were full value for their bonus point. The win keeps them 4 points clear of the chasing pack. They scored their tries through a Rik Thonhauser double, Anton Werth, Jesse Gordon and Piet Hein Schram.

Allard Jonkers, captain of ’t Gooi had this to say after the game “As we expected we had to work hard for a good result. We started of well putting big pressure on their set pieces and keeping them in their own half. After we came 10-0 up we started watching the game and we gave them time and ball to play with.”

He continued “The result at half time was 13-8 to our advantage. 2nd half we lifted the pace of the game. They couldn’t respond to this and we took over control. Frustration in their team gave us the opportunity to score a couple of tries. In the end it went easily our way, but it was tougher than the scoreboard shows.”

Next week sees ’t Gooi travel to champions Hilversum who are hitting their straps, it should be a superb encounter. Allard had this to say about the game “Next up Hilversum. Already looking forward to play the champions.”

Gareh Gilbert ’t Gooi coach added “The first half was scrappy and we were not happy with our intensity in attack and Defence. We scored 10 points pretty quickly and to be honest should have buried Eemland in the first half but we allowed them back into the game.”

He continued “The second half saw us raise the bar and we started to show why we are at the top of the league at the moment. The confidence showed by the team was good and our fitness again played a huge role in our performance. We scored 28 unanswered points in the 2nd half. We are happy and looking forard to taking on our arch rivals Hilversum next weekend.”

Ereklasse, wedstrijdverslag
