Edinburgh had double cause for celebration at the inaugural Magners League Awards ceremony, held in Cardiff on Monday night, as Chris Paterson and Tim Visser both came away with prestigious prizes. Paterson was given the Gilbert Golden Boot for recording the highest kicking percentage in the competition last season, 40 successful efforts from 45 leaving him with a success rate of 88.89%.
Visser, meanwhile, was named Young Player of the Season for his outstanding form in a debut campaign that saw him finish top of the Magners League scoring charts with 10 tries. New Edinburgh captain Roddy Grant also received a nomination for the Young Player award, while Visser made both the Magners League Dream Team and the shortlist for Players’ Player of the Season. In a further boost for the club, Jim Thompson received a nomination for Try of the Season courtesy of a memorable effort against Leinster.
On a positive night for the Scottish professional teams, Glasgow Warriors leader Al Kellock was named captain of the Dream Team, prop Jon Welsh was nominated for Young Player of the Season, and Sean Lineen made the shortlist for Coach of the Season.
