Tim Visser for Edinburgh 2009

Dutch wing Visser to double up?

Tim Visser is hoping to build on his impressive first outing for Edinburgh when they clash with Connacht at Murrayfield on Friday.

The 22-year-old winger, who arrived from Newcastle in the summer, scored a try on his Magners League debut in the Scottish side’s 22-21 victory over Cardiff Blues.

And he is now aiming to replicate that feat in front of his new home crowd when Connacht head across the Irish Sea this week in Round Two.

“I was really pleased to be able to help the team to win in Cardiff with a try in my first ever game in the Magners League,” said Visser.

“I am really looking forward to playing in front of the Edinburgh fans and showing them what I can do.

“Hopefully I will be given another chance against Connacht and I would love to be able to score some more tries at Murrayfield.”

However, the back admits he’s hoping the Scotland soccer team are less successful when they face his native Holland in a crucial World Cup qualifier at Hampden on Wednesday.

Visser is the only non-Scot in Edinburgh’s 36-man squad and he fully expects that a Scotland win would trigger much ribbing from his team-mates.

“I’m not really a big football fan, but quite a few of the boys in the Edinburgh team support the Scotland football team,” he said.

“The banter has already started ahead of the match and the team spirit at Edinburgh is really good; everyone has been really welcoming.

“As the only Dutch guy in a dressing room full of Scots I’m hoping that Holland don’t get defeated – otherwise I’ll be hearing a lot about the result.”
